Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged the newly installed Ovie of Oyede Kingdom in Isoko North Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Sir Engr. Goodnews Goodman Agbi, PhD, Athuaro I, to provide purposeful leadership rooted in wisdom, fairness, humility and compassion.
Speaking through the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, at the presentation of the Staff of Office to the pioneer Ovie of Oyede Kingdom, the governor described traditional leadership as a sacred trust that demands selfless service and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
Oborevwori said the event signified not only the formal ascension of the monarch to the throne of his forebears but also the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the kingdom.
According to him, the Staff of Office is more than a symbol of authority, as it represents a solemn responsibility to uphold justice, preserve the kingdom’s customs and traditions, foster unity among the people and champion sustainable development.
The governor assured that his administration would continue to work closely with traditional rulers across the state in strengthening peace, security and community development, describing them as indispensable partners in the implementation of the state’s development agenda.
He also appealed to the people of Oyede Kingdom to rally behind their monarch, stressing that enduring peace and meaningful progress could only thrive in an atmosphere of unity, mutual respect and collective responsibility.
Earlier, President-General of the Oyede Clan Union, Surv. Chief Peter Ededajiroghor Akarogbe, described the presentation of the Staff of Office as a defining moment in the history of the kingdom, marking the emergence of a new era of unity, peace and organised traditional governance.
Akarogbe said the installation of the Ovie effectively replaced the centuries-old Odio-Ologbo system, creating a more enduring framework for continuity, stability and the preservation of the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage.
He commended Governor Oborevwori and the Delta State Government for recognising the new traditional institution, noting that the presentation of the Staff of Office reaffirmed the monarch’s authority and underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions across the state.
He urged sons and daughters of Oyede Kingdom to remain united and give their unwavering support to the reign of the new Ovie, saying sustained peace, mutual respect and shared commitment would be vital to the kingdom’s growth and prosperity.
