EduEreGirls Support Organisation and the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine have donated 50 three-in-one classroom seats to Luxuriant Mission Academy in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, in a move to improve pupils’ learning conditions.
The intervention also included the construction of a walkway and the flooring of classrooms to provide pupils with a safer, more comfortable and conducive learning environment.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chairperson of EduEreGirls Support Organisation in Bayelsa State, Mrs Tracey Kabowei, said the project reflected the organisation’s commitment to expanding access to quality education, particularly for children in underserved communities.
She said every child deserved access to a learning environment that promoted dignity, confidence and academic achievement.
According to her, the intervention went beyond the provision of classroom furniture, as the improved facilities would enhance pupils’ daily learning experiences and encourage greater participation in school activities.
Kabowei commended the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine for partnering with the organisation, expressing hope that the initiative would inspire similar interventions in other disadvantaged communities.
The President of the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine, Rtn. Prof. Onyaye Kunle Olowu, said the project was consistent with Rotary’s commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
He explained that the donation of seats, construction of the walkway and flooring of classrooms formed part of efforts to improve living conditions and provide relief to communities in need.
Olowu reaffirmed the club’s commitment to sustainable community development, stressing that partnerships remained vital to achieving meaningful and lasting results.
Also speaking, the club’s Immediate Past President, Rtn. Joseph Benaebi, described the intervention as a practical demonstration of Rotary’s values of service, compassion and collaboration.
He said the transformation at the school underscored the benefits of collective action in addressing community needs.
The District Governor of Rotary International District 9141, Rtn. Chibueze Olikagu, said the partnership had restored hope and dignity to the pupils, while calling on individuals and organisations to support humanitarian initiatives.
He noted that communities could make significant progress when citizens, leaders and service organisations worked together to improve people’s lives.
The project followed a visit to the school in August 2026 by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EduEreGirls Support Organisation, Elizabeth Pere-ere Ijeh-Tarila Jack, and Olowu.
Recalling the visit, Ijeh-Tarila Jack said the condition of the school’s learning facilities had moved them to tears and prompted an immediate decision to prioritise improvements.
She explained that the organisations reviewed their plans to address the children’s immediate needs and restore dignity to their learning environment.
The Proprietress of Luxuriant Mission Academy, Mrs Ann Aganaba, expressed gratitude to both organisations, describing the intervention as a dream come true.
She said the new seats and improved access to classrooms would make learning more comfortable and safer for the pupils.
Meanwhile, Ijeh-Tarila Jack announced that the organisation would begin preparations for the second phase of the initiative at Cameroon Camp School.
She said the next phase would involve the provision of classroom desks and further improvements to the school’s learning environment, expressing optimism that the project could be completed before the end of 2026 with sustained public support.
The intervention highlights the role of partnerships between charitable organisations and service clubs in addressing infrastructure gaps in schools and creating better learning opportunities for children.
