Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has expressed condolences to the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Okonjo family of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Delta State, over the death of their matriarch, Professor Kamene Okonjo, aged 96.
Dafinone, in a condolence message, described the late professor as a woman whose life was marked by remarkable contributions to scholarship, women’s empowerment and service to humanity.
He said her legacy of excellence, compassion and commitment to family would continue to inspire generations, despite her passing.
The senator expressed particular sympathy with Okonjo-Iweala, the traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo II, and other members of the bereaved family.
While acknowledging the pain of losing their matriarch, Dafinone said the late professor’s fulfilled life and enduring contributions to society offered some comfort to the family.
He added that her achievements and the values she upheld would remain a source of inspiration to those who knew her and generations yet unborn.
“On behalf of my family and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, I pray that Almighty God grants her eternal rest and gives the family the strength and fortitude to bear this loss,” the senator said.
Dafinone prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the Okonjo family as they mourned the passing of their beloved matriarch.
