Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for Delta Central Senatorial District, Hon. Evelyn Omavowan Oboro Esq., yesterday raises alarm over security threat to her life.
Oboro, while briefing newsmen at her campaign office in Effururn, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, said that from messages and phone calls from strange numbers regarding the February 16 National Assembly election, call for concern that her life and that of her supporters and party members in Delta Central senatorial district are not safe.
She said, “as I embarked on my campaigns, I noticed that the application I wrote through my party and the council Chairman for security coverage through the Area Commander were not granted, but my opponent Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress, APC has been campaigning around Delta Central with 13 trucks of armed policemen and a police armoured car, threatening, intimidating my supporters and electorates in Delta central, boasting that he will arrest and incapacitate me.
“Everywhere he (Omo-Agege) goes to, instead of campaigning, he will be castigating me, ridiculing my name and making libelous statements against me and trying to run me down, it shows to me that I am a candidate to beat’.
Oboro who decried the massive transfer of policemen in Delta Central Senatorial District called on the new Inspector General of Police to look into the deployment of DPOs and Area Commanders in Delta Central between December 20, 2018 till date.
She said, “I am aware that they posted one man by name ” Iwok” to one special unit within Delta Central Senatorial District and he had been boasting that on election day, they are going to use their weapons, and federal might to ensure that they seized all ballot papers, intimidate my voters so that they can find a way to clamp me and illegally declare the APC candidate as the winner of the senatorial district election.
“They are boosting all over the places, they also said the Commissioner of Police, CP, has given them instructions, and that the CP who was posted here in Delta State is on assignment to deliver APC candidates
“I am raising this alarm because I have never seen such before, the people’s votes must count and I know that by the grace of God, come 16 February, by the overwhelming support of the good people of Delta central, I will be declared winner because am going to score the majority of the total votes cast”, she stated.
She called on the new IGP who is known for transparency and good work to use his good office to look into the massive deployment that was done in Delta central senatorial district and the refusal of the Police in Delta Central to provide her security coverage for her campaigns.
