League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) has condemned the harassment and intimidation of Natasha Akpoti, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP,) in the forthcoming Kogi State gubernatorial election by suspected political thugs.

NILOWV, in a statement by it’s President, Rt. Hon. Dame Dr. Esther Uduehi, stated that “the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), Condemns in its entirety the harassment and intimidation of Natasha Akpoti, the SDP Governorship Candidate in the forthcoming Kogi election.

“We believe that she is being harassed on the grounds of her gender and the fear that she may draw sympathy from female voters and change the equation of things in the State if she is on the ballot.

“Nigerian Women deserve equal treatment with their male counterparts and should not be singled out for intimidation or molestation. Nigeria is not an affair for the men alone and we need the full participation of both men and women to develop the country. We encourage informed and active participation of women in Government.

“She is a bonafide citizen of Nigeria and has rights. We are concerned for her safety and security in the elections and we call on the Federal Government and all the Security Agencies to ensure her safety and Security throughout the process.
