The decomposing corpes of unidentified husband and wife has been discovered and evacuated by residents in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The couples decomposing bodies were discovered days after they were not found within their neighborhood behind a very popular construction company (name withheld) in Ughelli north.
It was learned that the couple hail from Gbaregolor-Ewu community in Ughelli South Local Government Area but were residing in Ughelli North.
This is just as the Ewu-Urhobo youth association has condemned the unjust gruesome killing of the husband and wife.
According to sources, days before they were found dead, the man had an encounter with herders that allegedly used their cattle to destroy his newly molded blocks to set up his building.
The source said, “Few days before that unfortunate incident occurs, the man had an encounter with some herdsmen that used their cattle to destroy his newly molded blocks meant for their building.
“After the incident, days later, we could not find them and a search party was set up, only to find the man with cut over his body and the wife that was probably chased to swampy area before she was allegedly machete to death.” The source revealed.
Condemning the incident, the Ewu-Urhobo Youth Association described the action as a barbaric and unacceptable attack on human life.
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Erhiegueke Emmanuel, and Acting Secretary, Engr. Obukadeta E. Joseph, the association expressed shock and deep sadness over the tragic incident and called on government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
“We received with shock and deep sadness the report of the brutal killing of a husband and wife from Gbaregolor Community, Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom,” the association stated.
“We strongly condemn this heinous and barbaric act and the loss of innocent lives under such circumstances is unacceptable and a grave assault on human dignity.”
The association cited constitutional provisions guaranteeing the right to life and the responsibility of government to ensure the safety and welfare of citizens, insisting that the reported killings represent a direct violation of these fundamental principles.
“Section 33(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), guarantees every citizen the right to life, while Section 14(2)(b) provides that the security and welfare of the people shall remain the primary purpose of government.
The group therefore urged the Federal Government, Delta State Government, security agencies and relevant authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into the incident and ensure that justice is served.
“We call on the Federal Government, the Delta State Government, security agencies and all relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this reported incident, ensure that the perpetrators are identified, arrested, prosecuted and brought to justice in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
Expressing concern over what it described as persistent threats to lives and property within communities in the kingdom, the association demanded increased security presence and proactive measures to prevent further attacks.
“The people of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom can no longer continue to endure acts of violence, intimidation and bloodshed in our communities.
“We demand greater security presence and proactive measures to protect lives, farmlands and property across our kingdom.
“We wish to state clearly that the people of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom reject and condemn all forms of criminality and violence.
“We will not accept continued attacks, killings or threats against our people by any individual or group. Our communities deserve peace, security and justice under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We urge all residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies while pursuing justice through lawful means.” The statement said.
The group prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and called on God to grant their family the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
The reported killing has heightened concerns over security in parts of Ughelli North and South as community leaders and stakeholders are expected to intensify calls for security agents help in unraveling the unfortunate incident.
The youth body extended its condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Gbaregolor Community, and the entire Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom, noting that the loss of innocent lives under such circumstances had left the community devastated.
