The woman accused of flogging a 12-year-old boy to death in Adazi-Ani, Anambra State, has surrendered to the police following days of intensive manhunt by security operatives.
The Anambra State Police Command said the suspect, identified as Mrs. Dim Ebere, 47, voluntarily reported at the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters after sustained operations by the Command’s Safe School Protection Squad, working alongside officers of the Neni Division and with the support of community leaders and stakeholders.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said the suspect is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for the conclusion of investigations.
The command had earlier launched a manhunt for the suspect over the alleged flogging of a 12-year-old pupil, an incident that reportedly resulted in the boy’s death and sparked widespread public outrage.
Ikenga commended the Adazi-Ani community, the traditional institution and other stakeholders for their cooperation, which he said was instrumental in the suspect’s surrender.
He assured the bereaved family and the public that the police remained committed to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that justice is served.
The police spokesman also appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and continue to provide credible information that would assist ongoing investigations and other crime-fighting efforts across Anambra State.
