Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition from suspected motorcycle snatchers in Nnewi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.
The recovery, according to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, followed a routine patrol by operatives attached to the Nnewi Central Police Station on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Ikenga, in a statement issued in Awka, said the police team was on patrol along Ukpor Road, Umudim, Nnewi, when it sighted two men suspected to be involved in motorcycle snatching.
According to him, the suspects, who were riding on a motorcycle, took to their heels after sighting the police operatives, prompting the officers to give them a hot chase.
He said the suspects, while attempting to escape, abandoned a bag which fell from them during the pursuit.
“During the chase, the suspects abandoned a bag which fell from them while attempting to escape. A search conducted on the bag led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition,” he said.
The police spokesman disclosed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
He assured residents of Anambra State that the command would continue to intensify patrols and other security operations aimed at preventing crime and protecting lives and property across the state.
Ikenga reiterated the command’s commitment to combating all forms of criminality, while urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police by providing useful information that could assist in tracking down criminal elements.
