Nigeria’s Democracy Day: Dafinone Calls For Unity, Civic Participation, Supports Tinubu Reforms

Lawmaker representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ede Dafinone, has urged citizens to uphold democratic values and deepen their participation in governance as the country marks Democracy Day.

In a statement commemorating June 12, Dafinone described the day as a symbol of Nigerians’ struggle, sacrifices and determination in the pursuit of democratic rule, justice and national development.

He said the anniversary served as a reminder of the importance of protecting democratic institutions and preserving the principles of accountability and popular participation.

“June 12 remains a historic symbol of the sacrifices, resilience and collective determination of Nigerians in the pursuit of democratic governance,” Dafinone said.

The senator acknowledged that Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999 had faced several challenges but maintained that democracy remained the best system for ensuring peaceful change and citizens’ involvement in public affairs.

He urged Nigerians not to lose confidence in the democratic process despite current economic and social difficulties.

Dafinone called on citizens to continue supporting and praying for the administration of President , saying ongoing reforms were aimed at achieving economic stability, growth and sustainable development.

“Though some of the ongoing economic policies may require patience and sacrifice, the signs of long-term transformation are evident,” he said.

The lawmaker encouraged eligible voters yet to register to take advantage of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, describing voting as a key tool for influencing leadership and governance.

He also expressed appreciation to the people of Delta Central for their continued trust and support, while acknowledging their backing for Governor and the .

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Dafinone urged residents of Delta Central to remain politically active and ensure the district maintained a strong voice in national affairs.

“We cannot afford to be spectators in the affairs that shape our future,” he said, calling for unity and commitment among citizens.
