The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has intensified efforts to strengthen security operations in the South-East region, with a focus on intelligence-led policing, technological innovation and enhanced collaboration among security stakeholders.
The IGP, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, paid an operational visit to the Anambra State Police Command on Monday as part of an ongoing nationwide tour of the country’s geopolitical zones.
Speaking during the engagement, DIG Onwuemelie said the tour was designed to assess security operations, strengthen policing strategies and foster greater synergy among security agencies and relevant stakeholders in tackling emerging security threats.
He charged officers and men of the command to develop practical intelligence-driven solutions tailored to the peculiar security challenges confronting Anambra State and the wider South-East region.
The DIG also disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force was set to embrace Artificial Intelligence, AI, in its investigative processes, noting that specialised training programmes would be introduced to prepare officers for technology-driven policing.
According to him, the future of law enforcement lies in the effective deployment of technology, intelligence gathering and proactive crime-fighting strategies.
He further urged officers to remain committed to professionalism, accountability and the protection of human rights while discharging their responsibilities.
Welcoming the DIG, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the visit and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to advancing community policing and strengthening security across the state.
Orutugu said the command remained focused on sustaining partnerships with communities, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and safety.
The visit also provided a platform for strategic discussions on intelligence sharing, crime prevention and coordinated responses to security challenges affecting the region.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its resolve to maintain robust stakeholder engagement and effective security measures aimed at promoting peace, public safety and socio-economic development in Anambra State and the South-East region.
