Fr. Ewherido Appointed Bishop Of Warri Diocese

His Holiness Pope Francis has announced the appointment of Rev. Fr. Anthony Ewherido as the new Bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Warri.
Ewherido until his appointment is the Rector of the SS. Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Ibadan.

He was ordained a Catholic Priest in October 18th 1986, his academic qualifications includes
Diploma (from Summer course for Seminary Formators), Athenaeun Pontificium Regina Apostolorum – JULY 30, 2014. Doctor of Philosophy (Biblical Studies) Fordham University, Bronx, NY, USA, May 2004. Master of Philosophy (Biblical Studies) Fordham, Unibersity Bronxy, NY, USA, May 2000. Master of Arts (Theology [Biblical Studies]), St. Johms Unibersity, Jamaica, Queens, NY, USA, May 1995. Bachelor of Divinity (Theology) Pontifical Urbam University, June 1985.

Diploma in Religious Studies, University of Ibadan, 1982.
Before his seminary assignment, Fr. Anthony did extensive work in the pastoral, education, and healthcare sectors in Warri Diocese and in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY., and was a long time retreat facilitator with the Cenacle Sisters in Louisiana.

Fr. Anthony is a member of The Catholic Bible Association of America; The Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion; Catholic Biblical Association of Nigeria (CABAN); Catholic Theological Association of Nigeria (CATHAN); South West Association of Nigerian Catholic Theologians (SWANCTH).

His main research interests: The Gospel according to Matthew, the Gospel according to John, And Social Context Studies.

He becomes the second indigenous Bishop of the Diocese after the retirement of Bishop John Okeoghene Afareha.

The Bishop-elect hails from Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Ewherido is a simple, dedicated and unassuming Priest. His appointment as the Catholic Bishop of Warri was announced by Archbishop Augustine Akubueze, Archdiocese of Benin Archdiocese and Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, at the Cathedral on Wednesday 28th December, 2022
