Four Suspects In Custody Over Alleged Murder, Child Abuse In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has taken four suspects into custody over separate cases of alleged murder and child abuse, while commending residents for providing timely information that helped expose the crimes.

The Police said the arrests followed public reports and intelligence received from concerned residents regarding two disturbing incidents that recently gained attention on social media.

In the first case, police operatives arrested a 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, over the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend in Nkpor.

According to the Command, the case was reported by members of the public, prompting swift action by security operatives.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have taken over the matter and commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime.

“The case was reported following credible information received from concerned members of the public, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the case and commenced detailed inquiries to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served,” he said.

In a separate incident, three suspects were arrested over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu.

The suspects were identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40; Chisom Chukwuyere, 30; and Arum Goodluck, 16.

The police said investigations revealed that the victim sustained multiple injuries across his body, allegedly inflicted by the suspects.

During interrogation, Chisom Chukwuyere reportedly confessed to using burning plastic materials to inflict burns on the child.

The Command disclosed that the victim has been provided with necessary medical care and support, while investigators continue to gather evidence to facilitate prosecution.

Commending residents for their vigilance and cooperation, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, , assured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

He urged residents to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and criminal conduct through the Command’s emergency lines and the nearest police stations.

The Police noted that community cooperation remains critical in combating crime and enhancing security across the state.
