Despite protest protest against the installation and presentation of Staff of Office, Delta State Government has presented a staff of Office to the newly installed traditional ruler of Ewu kingdom, HRM Clement Ikolo amidst tight security in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state.
It was learned that, Ewu-Urhobo women barricaded the entrance to the community on Thursday in other to prevent the Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme from the event, but the arrival of the military and other security agencies intervention put the situation under control.
Prior to the presentation of the Staff of Office to the monarch, Ewu Women Protest with casket rejecting the choice and imposition of Ikolo, as they Lay curses on supporters.
In a video circulating in the social media, the women in their numbers, were seen at the village square dropping a black coloured casket with each holding leaf and singing funeral songs with laid curses on anyone perpetuating crisis and causing trouble in the kingdom.
The protest had led to the death of one Osigidi Emmanuel of the community in the midst of the crisis.
Meanwhile, women from the kingdom had in last week led a protest to the palace of the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom as the Chairman of Delta State Traditional Rulers Council with a call on him to intervened and prevailed on the state government from presenting staff of office to Clement Ikolo as their king to avoid crisis and war.
In lieu of the announcement of the presentation of staff of office to Clement Ikolo as the recognized king by the government, the Bernard Awarieta fashion went and obtained a Court Order from the High Court of Justice sitting at Otu-Jeremi, headquarters of Ughelli South Local Government Area, restraining and calling on both parties including the state government and the attorney general of the state to ignore the presentation of staff of office to the Clement Ikolo pending when the matter will be heard on November 23, 2023.
An unconfirmed source hinted that the presentation of staff of office to Clement Ikolo will hold, stating that as early as 5:30am security operatives will be deployed to maintained laws and orders in case of any break down of laws.
