The Anambra State Police Command has explained that its ongoing enforcement operation involving the impoundment of vehicles with tinted glasses, including those whose owners possess tinted glass permits, is part of a broader security initiative aimed at strengthening public safety across the state.
The Command said the exercise also covers unregistered vehicles as well as those with concealed, covered or defaced number plates, stressing that it is not intended to subject law-abiding residents to unnecessary hardship.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said the operation is designed to verify the authenticity of tinted glass permits, detect forged or fraudulently obtained permits, enforce compliance with vehicle registration regulations and prevent criminals from using such vehicles to evade identification.
According to the police, intelligence and security reports have shown that vehicles with illegal tinted glasses and obscured number plates are increasingly being used by criminal elements to perpetrate crimes while frustrating law enforcement efforts.
While expressing regret over the inconvenience the exercise may cause to members of the public, the Command maintained that the operation has become necessary in view of the prevailing security challenges and the need to protect lives and property.
The police, therefore, appealed to residents of Anambra State to remain patient, cooperate with security personnel and support the ongoing exercise, assuring that it is being carried out strictly in the interest of maintaining law and order and enhancing security across the state.
