ATM SWAP SCAM: Two Arrested After Customer Raises Alarm In Ughelli Bank

Security agents attached to a new generation bank in Isoko Road in Ughelli, Delta State, have arrested two men, Chigozie, 33, and Okuche, 40, for allegedly swapping a female customer’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card after she raised the alarm.
The suspects, who said they reside in Okpanam, Asaba, were said to have travelled from the state capital to Ughelli to carry out the alleged operation before the customer’s alarm drew the attention of the security agents, leading to their arrest.
Chigozie reportedly hails from Anambra State, while Okuche is from Ebonyi State.
The incident occurred when the female customer visited the bank with her daughter to resolve an issue with her ATM card. After the problem was rectified, she was directed to test the card at an ATM point outside the banking hall.
Recounting her experience, the woman said one of the suspects offered to assist her as she approached the ATM section, prompting her to hand over her card to him.
She became suspicious when her daughter asked for the card and she realised that she had given it to the stranger.
According to her, when she called on the man to return the card, he allegedly began moving away from the bank premises, forcing her to raise the alarm.
The security agents attached to the bank immediately responded to the alarm and arrested the suspect and his  accomplice.
Three ATM cards, belonging to First Bank, Keystone Bank, and United Bank of Africa, UBA, an android mobile phone and earbuds were reportedly recovered from the suspects.
The suspects are expected to be handed over to security operatives, as the bank authorities await officers from the Ughelli Area Command for further investigation.
