Senate considers 35 years age qualification for President, 32 other constitutional amendments

The Senate has received the 33-item report on the fourth alteration of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. The report tabled at the upper legislative chamber proposes amendments which include reducing the powers of the federal government in the exclusive legislative list, financial autonomy for local government and state legislature; and downward review of the minimum age for elective public officers, among others. Sex workers fight over hotel space, land in court

A 29-year-old sex worker, Beauty Tagbami, is facing trial at an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly cutting the face of her colleague with a razor blade. The accused, who resides at a hotel, appeared on a two-count charge of unlawful assault and assault causing bodily harm. Tagbami had entered a “not guilty” plea. The prosecutor, Insp. Following the protest by Graca Machel, the widow of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela, the publishers of the controversial book, “ Mandela’s Last Years”, have pulled it from the shelves and immediately stopped issuing copies. Machel, had threatened legal action against his late husband’s personal doctor, Dr. Vejay Ramlakan, over a book that reveals previously undisclosed details of his patient.
