The African Action Congress, AAC, has reaffirm its continued support for Dr. Leonard Nzenwa as the National Chairman of the party as the presidential candidate of the party, Omoyele Sowore at the February 9, 2019 presidential election Omoyele Sowore remain expelled from the party.

This was contained in a statement signed by Rev Udoka Peace Ossaiga for the National Executive Committee of the party in response to an interview granted to some National dailies by Elias Ozikpu on behalf Lagos State chapter of the party pledging the party allegiance to Sowore

According to the statement, Ozikpu pledges its allegiance to the former presidential candidate of AAC at the February election, Omoyele Sowore who has been expelled from the party

“The attention of the national leadership of the African Action Congress (AAC) has been drawn to a nefarious interview reportedly granted by one Elias Ozikpu on behalf the Lagos State Chapter of the party, to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as reported by the Guardian Newspaper on 11th August, 2019 disowning the national chairman of the party, Dr. Leonard Nzenwa, pledging allegiance to the expelled former pro-tem national chairman of the party, Mr. Omoyele Sowore.

The statement, “Elias Ozikpu was never a member of the Lagos State Executive of the party, and was amongst the several recalcitrant members of the party that were suspended in March, 2019, and expelled for their role in the infamous ‘RevolutionNow’ failed protest that embarrassed the party, pitched her against the State, and put her in harm’s way of de-registration.

“While Elias Ozikpu and other characters behind the interview do not deserve the response of the national leadership of the party, this response is necessitated by the need to properly inform the public of the position of the issues referred.

“It is instructive that the interview did not emanate from the appropriate quarter for it was not granted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognized leadership of the party in Lagos State.

“Mr. Elias Ozikpu and his co-travelers in their sinking ship are not qualified to own or disown the national chairman of the party on behalf respected leaders and members of the party in Lagos State.

Furthermore, “Mr. Omoyele Sowore who has just been expelled from the party at her special convention in Owerri, Imo State, had earlier been suspended by the national leadership of the party with several court judgments upholding same.

“If not for mischief, what sense does it make to pledge allegiance to someone who is no longer a member of the party? For the records, Dr. Leonard Nzenwa is the national chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC). His leadership enjoys the support of vast bona fide leaders and members of the party who are pleased to see the end of despotism and failure that the former pro-tem chairman represents, and the emergence of transparent, purpose-driven, and accountable leadership which Dr. Leonard Nzenwa embodies.

“We call on well-meaning Nigerians who are interested in the emergence of a new Nigeria to disregard the last kicks of the dying horses and support the refocused leadership of the party to provide the right political alternative to Nigerians”.
