Nigeria Women condemn Army’s involvement in An Alleged Election Rigging in Rivers State

NIGERIA women under the platform of League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOVN) has condemned the alleged involvement of the Nigerian Military in the Electoral rigging process in Rivers State and other states across the country. 
In a statement released and signed by the founder and National President of the group, Dame (Dr.) Esther Uduehi condemned the actions of the the Nigeria Army attached to monitor the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections in Rivers State. 


It was gathered that the women in Rivers State nearly mobbed an alleged ballot boxes snatcher to death in one of the polling units in Port Harcourt at the just concluded Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections held in most states of Nigeria.


A source who confirmed the incident alleged that, the ballot box snatcher came to a polling unit in Port Harcourt wanting to take away voting materials. 


“When he came, all the men in the polling units took to their heels but the women stood their ground and held the man hostage and he was beaten to stupor before he was rescued and taken to unknown destination by security agencies”. 


The statement, “We note with dissatisfaction the role the Military reportedly played in the electoral process in some areas of the Nigerian Nation during the Presidential and National Assembly elections and has continued the same in the Governorship and State Assembly Elections. 


“We see this as an attack on our democracy and we are urging the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Military to order and save our hard earned Democracy”.


“The League stands for free and fair Elections as a way of deepening our Democracy”. The statement reads.
