Truecaller, a Swedish mobile app that provides the identity of unknown callers, has launched its developer program at an event in Nigeria.
Having recently signalled its intention to expand across Africa, Truecaller launched a developer program for African coders at the CcHUB, Africa’s leading social innovation centre, according to ITNewsAfrica.
The event was held by the company in order to launch the program and explain their expansion plans throughout the country and the region.
The Scandinavian firm will be hiring key African personnel, and it will also decide on a location, either in South Africa or Nigeria, where its African headquarters will be set up.
Truecaller is the world’s largest verified mobile phone community dedicated to helping users to avoid and block spam calls and messages through the use of a mobile app.
Truecaller’s popularity in Africa is already well established, with the mobile app used by more than 50 million people on the continent, and app stores often featuring the app as one of their most popular, according to Techfinancials.
Developer program for African coders and startups
At the event Truecaller announced the launch of its Developer Program with Truecaller SDK, its mobile identity product for digital startups and app developers.
Truecaller SDK enables third party app developers, digital businesses and startups to verify end users efficiently by utilizing their Truecaller profile with a one-touch and password free experience, according to ThisDay.
Available on Android, iOS and web platforms, the program can be used by any app or website to instantly onboard, autofill user information, or verify the user’s phone number-based identity through the users’ consent.
Priyam Bose, director & head of worldwide developer relations at Truecaller, explained the reason why the developer program launch was being made in Nigeria.
“We see Nigeria as one of the most promising eco-systems in Africa, that’s why we have decided to kick-off our tour in the market,” said Bose, according to AllAfrica.
“After engaging with some of the top tech startups and digital businesses in the country, we are even more convinced that Truecaller SDK – mobile identity solution – will help solve many of their challenges when onboarding and verifying new users,” said Bose.
