Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, have arrested a 49-year-old man, Chima Ogumba, suspected of armed robbery.
The suspect was arrested on the morning of August 17, 2026, along Nkpor Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, following an intelligence-led operation by the police.
The operation also led to the recovery of one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from the suspect.
A statement issued yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operatives stormed the identified area and conducted a search on the suspect, during which the firearm and ammunition were recovered.
According to the statement, the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the suspect be thoroughly investigated to determine his possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.
The police said the investigation would also establish the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition.
The commissioner, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating crime, said intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, targeted patrols and sustained tactical interventions would continue across the state.
He said the measures were aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling criminal networks operating in Anambra.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information to the police to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
