Anambra CP Orders Query of DPO, Two Officers Over ‘Missing’ Robbery Suspect

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered the immediate issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the 3-3 Police Station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) over the alleged failure to account for an armed robbery suspect reportedly arrested and brought to the station.

The Commissioner also directed the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police in connection with the incident.

The directives followed a viral video alleging that an armed robbery suspect arrested by the police and taken to the 3-3 Police Station could no longer be accounted for.

CP Oji Ama issued the directives on Monday, October 5, 2026, after personally interviewing the complainant and the police officers allegedly connected with the arrest and detention of the suspect.

The Commissioner described the allegation as serious, warning that any act of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established police procedures would not be tolerated under his watch.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner ordered the Command’s X-Squad to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts of the suspect.

The investigation, he said, would also establish the roles and responsibilities of all police officers involved in the matter.

The development comes amid growing public concern over allegations bordering on police accountability and the handling of suspects in custody.

Oji Ama, however, cautioned against drawing conclusions from unverified claims, stressing that facts surrounding the incident must be established through due process.

He urged members of the public to desist from circulating information capable of prejudicing the ongoing investigation.

The Commissioner further disclosed that necessary operational measures had been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect, suggesting that the Command was actively pursuing leads concerning the suspect’s whereabouts.

He assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be communicated once the relevant facts had been established.

The Commissioner reiterated that accountability remained a core component of his leadership philosophy, insisting that no police officer was above scrutiny or the disciplinary process.

He said the Command would continue to enforce professional standards and take appropriate action against personnel found to have violated police regulations or abused their positions.

The police authorities did not disclose the identity of the suspect or provide further details on the circumstances of his alleged arrest, detention or disappearance.

The Command therefore urged members of the public to await the outcome of the investigation, as efforts continue to unravel what transpired at the 3-3 Police Station and determine the whereabouts of the suspect.
