OKUAMA IDP’S MANAGEMENT & REPS PROBE: WE’RE WATCHING

By Zik Gbemre

So far so good on Okuama, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has set up an IDP Management Committee headed by our Abraham Ogbodo and House of Reps has opened probe on killing of soldiers, killing of Okuama people and elimination of Okuama community that spared only the Anglican Church building in memory of the first Midwest/Bendel Bishop, Agori-Iwe who hailed from Okuama community in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State.

I had faulted Oborevwori for not condemning the destruction and elimination of Okuama community by the military when he visited Okuama community.

At last my advocacy to rehabilitate the surviving Okuama locals and provide them with temporary shelter, food, water and medicines is heard by the Governor who hesitantly visited Okuama to see that the community is no longer in existence as community and surviving people have been living in bushes like wild animals.

A lot of Okuama locals would be scared to appear before the Reps probe panel because many of them have been declared wanted by the military. The threat of arrest and intimidation will scare them.

As for the Delta state governor, he should know that he ought to have done this much earlier than this.

The sincerity of Okuama IDP Management Committee should be guaranteed. They should be seen as genuinely committed to ensuring that every dime allocated to the project is sincerely used for suffering Okuama people who have no home of theirs as all they have were destroyed by the military on the order of President Tinubu and military commanders.

The REPS probe Committee shouldn’t shy away that soldiers posted to guard Utorogu Gas Plant in Delta went for a questionable peace mission in Okuama.

Who authorized the questionable peace mission in Okuama and why did solders posted to guard oil and gas assets went outside their duty.

The Okuama IDP management Committee shouldn’t end up like Covid 19 palliative and other economic hardship palliatives that were seen on papers and television video broadcasts.

Few days ago, Michael Egi, a Nigerian based in the United States of America donated generously to the Okuama people and people received his package and acknowledged it.

Michael Egi is not a politician and not seeking for appointment and relevance but he did it as a humanitarian and a patriotic Nigerian who is based in Columbia City of Maryland State, US.

Governor Oborevwori your IDP Management Committee should be credible and delivered and not just the funfair and jamboree of setting it up.

We need results and not propaganda/publicity stunt.
President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, Okuama needs to be rebuilt and people adequately compensated to restart their peaceful lives.

The House Probe on Okuama shouldn’t end up in office shelves dusts as usual. Most PROBES by government or legislature end up in jamboree without achieving the purpose of the probes. No political will to implement findings.

Very importantly most IDP Management Committees of government end up gulping millions/billions of naira that will enter pockets of
We are watching government over Okuama.
