The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has honoured the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Muhammad Idris, with the Distinguished Leadership Award for Excellence in Information Management and National Orientation.
The Guild said the award was in recognition of Idris’ contributions to journalism, strategic communication, public relations and national development, as well as his efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s information management system.
The National President of GOMEP-NG, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, said the recognition followed an assessment of the minister’s professional achievements, leadership qualities and commitment to responsible communication, democratic values and effective national orientation.
Otiti described Idris as an accomplished communication strategist whose career exemplifies professionalism in journalism, public relations and public service.
According to him, the minister has distinguished himself through his commitment to credible information dissemination, ethical journalism, strategic communication and the promotion of national consciousness.
He said the award also reflected the Guild’s appreciation of Idris’ contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s media industry and his efforts to promote a coordinated approach to government communication and public engagement.
Before his appointment as Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris established himself as a media entrepreneur and communications professional, with contributions to journalism, publishing and public relations.
GOMEP-NG noted that his transition from the media industry to public service underscored the importance of professional experience in shaping government communication, strengthening democratic governance and improving relations between government and citizens.
The Guild said the award was also part of its commitment to recognising individuals whose contributions have advanced journalism, responsible media practice and national development.
It added that Idris’ career and leadership in the information sector remained an inspiration to media practitioners and communications professionals across the country.
