MANROY Global Services Limited, in partnership with TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited, has donated a brand-new 18-seater bus to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, to enhance the mobility and operational activities of journalists in the area.
The presentation of the vehicle took place at the MANROY office along the DSC Expressway, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, in the presence of the Ovie of Great Idjerhe Kingdom, HRM King Monday Obukohwo Whiskey, PhD, a veteran in the media industry.
Speaking during the ceremony, Managing Director of MANROY Global Services Limited, Mr Collins Okorie, said the donation was made in recognition of the cordial relationship between the company, TANTITA and the NUJ.
Okorie said the vehicle was provided to assist journalists in carrying out their professional responsibilities, stressing the critical role of the media in society.
According to him, “You know in society, without journalism, information will not be disseminated. So, you are an important part of society and without you there is no society.”
He said the company was pleased to support the NUJ and expressed hope that the bus would contribute positively to the activities of the chapel.
Also speaking, the Administration Manager of TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited, Princess Daisy Jaja, said the donation was in line with the company’s policy of supporting institutions and organisations, particularly where such assistance could enhance their operations.
Jaja explained that providing a bus for the NUJ would make it easier for journalists to attend events and assignments collectively, rather than travelling in separate vehicles.
She said, “It’s always very hard to get pockets of people in different vehicles. But if they are in their bus, they will go together and come back together.”
Jaja noted that TANTITA had maintained a cordial relationship with the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, adding that the company had also supported the journalists by building a befitting secretariat for the union.
She described the donation as a significant gesture by MANROY, saying it was conceived and executed without publicity until the presentation.
“It’s a very big feat that our partners, MANROY, imagined and kept quiet. So, we pray that the bus helps in every angle it’s supposed to, and that fuel money no go be problem,” she said.
In his remarks, the Ovie of Great Idjerhe Kingdom, HRM King Monday Obukohwo Whiskey, PhD, commended MANROY and TANTITA for the gesture.
The traditional ruler urged the two companies to sustain their existing relationship with the NUJ and continue to support initiatives that promote professional journalism and community development.
Also speaking, Chairman of the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Okakuro Akpokona Omafuaire, expressed appreciation to the managements of TANTITA and MANROY for the donation.
Omafuaire said the vehicle would significantly improve the chapel’s ability to cover assignments and participate in professional engagements.
He said, “We are happy you have increased our propensity to do our jobs. Driving that vehicle alone everywhere is a campaign for TANTITA and MANROY. We will drive it and use it to campaign for the company’s support everywhere.”
The NUJ chairman assured the companies that the chapel would put the vehicle to good use, while appealing to MANROY to sustain its partnership with the union and remain open to further collaboration.
Earlier, Mr Silver Ofugara welcomed members of the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel and the traditional ruler to the MANROY office for the presentation ceremony.
