The newly promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Ikioye Orutugu, on Monday commenced a statewide thank-you tour of key stakeholders in Anambra State with a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Awka Kingdom, HRM Igwe Gibson Nwosu, as part of activities marking his transition to a new phase of his career in the Nigeria Police Force.
Orutugu, who was recently elevated from Commissioner of Police to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, said the visit was to express his heartfelt appreciation to the traditional institution and the people of Awka for their unwavering support, cooperation and partnership throughout his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Anambra State.
Speaking during the visit, the AIG commended the monarch for his steadfast support to the Anambra State Police Command and other security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace, security and public safety across the state.
He noted that the successes recorded by the Command during his administration were the product of a collective commitment by the state government, traditional rulers, community leaders, security stakeholders and residents of Anambra.
According to him, effective policing and sustainable security can only be achieved through continuous collaboration between law enforcement agencies, traditional institutions and members of the public.
He, therefore, appealed for sustained support for the Police and other security agencies to consolidate the gains already made in combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
Responding, Igwe Gibson Nwosu congratulated Orutugu on his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, describing it as well deserved.
The traditional ruler praised the AIG’s exemplary leadership, professionalism and commitment to improving security during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Anambra State.
He further wished the senior police officer greater success and divine guidance as he takes on higher responsibilities in the Nigeria Police Force.
