THE Assistant Commissioner of Police attached to Ughelli Area Command, ACP Ademola Adebayo, has presented cheques to winners of the just concluded maiden edition of CP Abaniwonda Olufemi football tournament organized in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Presenting the cheques to Olomu, Ogor and Ughelli kingdoms at his office, ACP Ademola Adebayo disclosed that the tournament would be a continuous competition for the period of his stay in Ughelli Area Command.
It would be recalled that the CP Abaniwonda Olufemi Peace Cup was organized by the Delta State Police Commissioner, and the Ughelli Area Commander to foster unity, peace and inclusiveness among communities and kingdoms under the command.

The maiden edition of the football tournament gold medal was won by Olomu kingdom, Ogor won silver medal while Ughelli kingdom won the Bronze medal respectively.
Speaking during the presentation of cheques to winners, ACP Ademola Adebayo commended various kingdoms that participated in in tournament and making it a success.

He said, “Our vision and purpose in organizing this peace tournament is to bring the police and the people they are serving to rob minds together and to create to cordial relationship.
“We are glad that the first maiden edition of CP Abaniwonda Olufemi football tournament was a success and we promised to do more in the next edition in 2026 if am still here.
During the tournament, five matches were played among the 14 kingdoms from the three local government areas that registered and that gulp up money.
It was our intention to present N 2 million cash price to the overall winner,N1.5 to second runner up and a million to the third place but bring that police don’t have money and majority of those we relied on never turn up.
“But whatever thing we are presenting should be accepted wholeheartedly as the next edition will improve.
“We and the LOC personally visited the three Council chairmen, from Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Ethiope East to brief them and if they had turned up, it wouldn’t have been this way.
“Those whom we never expected, sponsored us to a large extent and we are very grateful for their commitment and contributions towards this great achievement and if I am not here for the next edition,I will add the tournament to part of my handing over to whoever that will be the Area Commander.
We spent our own money to produce all the medals, Gold, Silver and Bronze that were presented to participants and the little cash is what I am presenting today.
Never look at how small the amount but the participation, synergy that we had was the ultimate of the event and we will not relent in this part because people have known the police to be responsible for only arrest, detention and bail.
“This tournament gave majority of us to interact together, sit in one place, eat and together and jokes together, and that is the essence of it and to also explore raw talents from the grassroot.”
The Police were commended for organizing the Peace Cup tournament that brought many communities together.
The Ohworode of the Ancient Olomu kingdom, HRM Macaulay Ovbagbedia Uhurhie-Osadjere II in his goodwill message, congratulated the police for promotion peace through football.
“I am congratulating my police colleagues for putting up this wonderful event to bring peace among the communities and as the winner of the tournament, I am grateful to my Olomu Kingdom for their commitment.”
In a related development, the winners of the Delta CP Peace Cup, Olomu kingdom team has been invited to represent Nigeria at the World Youth Championship in Ivory Coast, by November 2025.
This invitation was sent through the National Sports Director Police Against Cultism and other vices, POCACOV Comr Thomas Abirhire.
