Sir Itiako Malik Ikpokpo has called on his political associates and supporters to close ranks and mobilise massive support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that party unity remains the key to electoral victory.
Ikpokpo made the call on Wednesday during the second meeting of the Ikpokpo Political Family at his country home in Uro-Irri, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The meeting was attended by coordinators from the eight local government areas of Delta South Senatorial District, alongside members of the political family from Isoko South and Isoko North local government areas.
Addressing the gathering, Ikpokpo said the meeting was convened to provide members with an opportunity to interact, air their concerns and adopt a common political position ahead of the 2027 polls.
He acknowledged that his withdrawal from the APC Delta South Senatorial District primary election was a painful experience but said he had put the incident behind him in the overall interest of the party.
“The circumstances surrounding my withdrawal from the primary were unpleasant, but I have moved on. As a loyal party member, I am fully committed to working for the overwhelming victory of the APC in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The former Director-General of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Managing Director of Dunamis Icon Limited described the APC as Nigeria’s most formidable political platform, expressing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Drawing from his experience as Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council between 2014 and 2021, Ikpokpo recalled that councils grappled with monthly allocation deficits of between ₦24 million and ₦40 million during his tenure.
He argued that the financial position of states and local governments had improved under the Tinubu administration and commended the President for championing reforms, including the push for state policing, which he described as a bold step towards addressing the country’s security challenges.
While acknowledging that Nigeria still faces economic and governance challenges, Ikpokpo expressed optimism that the country was on the path to recovery under the current administration.
He also commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as his impressive infrastructure drive and inclusive approach to governance, saying the governor had demonstrated a commitment to delivering critical projects while fostering stakeholder engagement and party cohesion.
Ikpokpo appealed to aggrieved party members to set aside their differences and work together, insisting that only a united APC could achieve victory in the 2027 elections.
At the end of the meeting, members of the Ikpokpo Political Family unanimously resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation across wards and polling units in Delta South Senatorial District in support of President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
