The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Olorogun Jaro Movudu Egbo, has said his administration has recorded remarkable achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, environmental sanitation and workers’ welfare within its first two years in office.

Presenting the administration’s two-year scorecard, Egbo said the projects and programmes executed by the council were a testament to its commitment to transparency, accountability and people-centred governance.

He disclosed that the Ultra-Modern Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat Complex is at an advanced stage of completion, while work is also progressing on a new Secretariat Gate Complex to enhance security and improve the aesthetic outlook of the council headquarters.

According to him, the Legislative Assembly Complex has been fully rehabilitated and furnished with modern office facilities, including an independent power supply, while modern multi-storey market stalls have been constructed to provide better trading spaces for entrepreneurs and boost economic activities in the area.

The council chairman also revealed that a functional dual-court complex has been completed to improve access to justice, adding that rehabilitation work has commenced on the long-abandoned Post Office Road in front of Ughelli High Court II. The project, he said, comprises reinforced concrete pavement, asphalt overlay and a comprehensive drainage system to address flooding and improve road access.

In the health sector, Egbo said the Ughelli North Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital has been completed, commissioned and fully equipped to provide quality healthcare services to residents, while residential accommodation for doctors and nurses is currently under construction.

On electricity, he stated that the council procured and installed three 11/33KVA transformers in strategic communities and restored power supply to the council secretariat. He added that a hybrid solar power system and high-capacity solar streetlights have also been deployed to ensure uninterrupted lighting.

Speaking on education, the chairman said the council partnered with the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on teacher capacity development and classroom rehabilitation. He added that over 300 school desks, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books and other learning materials were procured through the council’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and distributed to pupils in public primary schools.

Egbo said security remained a top priority of his administration, noting that collaboration with security agencies had restored peace in the Ogor, Evwreni and Ohoror axis of the East-West Highway.

He said sustained operations also led to the dismantling of criminal hideouts along the Evwreni-Uwheru and Uvwianmuge-Agbarho corridors, resulting in a significant reduction in cases of kidnapping and armed robbery.

The chairman further disclosed that the council donated a fully equipped patrol vehicle to the Police Mobile Force, constructed a modern police post and renovated a building at the DDPA Housing Estate for Operation Delta Sweep, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

On environmental sanitation, Egbo said the council carried out extensive desilting of drainage channels, particularly along the East-West Road corridor in Agbarho, and revived the monthly environmental sanitation exercise to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

He also stated that the administration cleared all outstanding financial obligations owed to members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and has continued to prioritise staff welfare.

According to him, strategic offices within the council have been modernised, official vehicles procured for key office holders, while an 18-seater bus was provided for the Council Press Unit.

Egbo pledged to sustain the momentum, saying the administration would continue to focus on infrastructure development, quality healthcare, education, improved security, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, environmental sustainability and economic growth.

He appreciated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, traditional rulers, political leaders, security agencies, religious and community leaders, civil servants, the media, development partners and residents of Ughelli North for their support.

The council chairman reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, inclusiveness and prudent management of public resources, expressing optimism that the local government would witness greater development in the years ahead.
