Suspected Gunmen Shoot DESTMA Officials in Ughelli


OFFICIALS of the Delta State Traffic Management Agency, DESTMA, commonly known as ‘Okowa Police’ have been shot by unknown gunmen at Ughelli Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Though it could not be ascertained the cause of the incident as the shooting at Ughelli main Market in a broad daylight.


Before the incident, five persons have been shot dead and many others injured in a renewed cult clash in Ughelli and it could not be ascertained if the DESTMA officials was attacked due to the cult clashes.

The attacked DESTMA official simply  identified as Adausi Oyedenefa was at his duty post before the incident happened.


Contacted for confirmation, Director General of the Agency, Olorogun Stephen Dieseruvwe in a text message to this reporter said, “Sorry I am in a Meeting”.


But the zonal head of Ughelli, Desmond Adu said, “The matter has been reported at Ughelli ‘A’ division.


According to Adu, “At about 10a.m, one of my officers was at his market beat and while he was there controlling vehicles to ease traffic, two boys dressed in black on motorcycle, accosted him, brought out a gun, shot at him and immediately sped off.


“The officer, Oyedenefa immediately fled the scene of the incident accompanied by other DESTMA officials present and were brought back to the office by one of the civil defense operatives attached to the market.


“We understand that of late, there have been clashes between cultists but we do not have details if he is one of them or if it was a random attack.”
