The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects over an alleged plot to murder a citizen and take over his landed properties in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were also alleged to be in possession of firearms and ammunition.
The breakthrough, according to the command, followed an intelligence-led operation initiated by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips.
The suspects were identified as Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37.
The command said the suspects were arrested at different locations in Ukwulu and Amichi on the evening of Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, working with Agunechemba security personnel attached to Amichi, Nnewi, acted on credible intelligence to disrupt the alleged plot.
According to the statement, two firearms and live ammunition were recovered during the operation.
The police said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were allegedly linked to a plan to kill a citizen and subsequently take over his landed properties.
The command, however, said investigation was ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy and determine the roles allegedly played by each of the suspects.
It added that efforts were also being made to identify and apprehend other persons who might have been connected with the alleged plot.
The four suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Speaking on the development, CP Nnanna said the arrest underscored the importance of the command’s renewed intelligence-led policing strategy.
He said the strategy was aimed at detecting criminal threats before they were executed, disrupting planned attacks and protecting lives and property across the state.
The police boss further assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and collaboration with security stakeholders to prevent criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information capable of helping to prevent crime.
