The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has announced that the state police command will bear the full medical expenses of the surviving child in the tragic incident involving four children found unconscious in Ideani Community.

Oji Ama, who disclosed this during his maiden press briefing in the state, said the Command would closely monitor the child’s treatment and recovery to ensure that all necessary medical interventions were provided.

The Commissioner expressed deep sadness over the incident, which resulted in the death of three of the children despite efforts by medical personnel to save their lives.

The four children, aged six, nine, 12 and 15 years, were reportedly found unconscious in Ideani Community. While three were certified dead, the fourth child is currently receiving intensive medical treatment.

“Our immediate priority is to see the child recover out of respect for the sanctity of human life,” Oji Ama said.

He assured the people of Anambra State that the circumstances surrounding the incident would be investigated with the highest level of professionalism.

The Commissioner, however, did not disclose further details about the circumstances that led to the children being found unconscious, stressing the need to allow the appropriate investigative processes to take their course.

CP promises intelligence-led policing

Oji Ama also unveiled a new security strategy aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Command to prevent and combat crime across Anambra State.

He said his administration would undertake a comprehensive review of existing policing strategies and operational capabilities, with particular emphasis on intelligence gathering, technology-driven policing and proactive crime prevention.

“As I assume command, we shall undertake a comprehensive review of our policing strategies and operational capabilities.

“We will strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, improve operational efficiency, and deepen proactive crime prevention measures across the State,” he said.

The Commissioner further promised to strengthen community policing and improve collaboration with sister security agencies, organised vigilante groups and other stakeholders.

According to him, stronger cooperation between the police, communities and other security stakeholders would help to improve intelligence gathering, prevent crime and build public confidence.

“Our objective is clear—to make Anambra State safer, more secure and more peaceful for every resident and visitor,” he said.

Seeks media partnership

The CP called on journalists to support the Command through responsible and objective reportage, describing the media as an indispensable partner in the security architecture of the state.

He urged members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to ensure that their reports remained factual, balanced and responsible, particularly when reporting sensitive security matters.

He said responsible reporting was critical to maintaining public confidence and protecting public safety and national security.

“I count on your continued support, cooperation and objective reportage as we collectively confront criminality in all its forms,” he said.

CP commends officers, Soludo

Oji Ama commended officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies and the people of Anambra State for their sacrifices, cooperation and support in the collective effort to maintain peace and public safety.

He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, for the confidence reposed in him and for appointing him to lead the Anambra State Police Command.

The Commissioner equally commended the state government under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for its support for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.

He acknowledged the government’s policies and legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening public safety and addressing the root causes of crime.

Oji Ama said Anambra State was blessed with industrious, resilient and enterprising people whose potential could only flourish in an atmosphere of peace, law and order.

He pledged that the Command under his leadership would discharge its constitutional responsibilities with integrity, fairness, professionalism and respect for the rule of law.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and security-conscious, and to provide timely and credible information to the police and other security agencies.

He appealed to members of the public to report suspicious persons, activities or incidents to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency channels.
