Manchester United weighing up a bid for Gareth Bale

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United could be set to launch a £100million bid for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.

The Welshman only made a cameo appearance for Los Blancos in their 4-1 Champions League final victory over Juventus on Saturday night. Bale has only just returned from injury, which contributed to the former Tottenham star starting the final on the bench.

Bale has endured an injury-hit campaign this season. In fact, the 27-year-old has struggled with various injuries throughout his time in Spain. On numerous occasions, there have been murmurings that the winger is unsettled as well.

Reports in Spain suggest that Bale is not the most popular player amongst the fans. Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane has also recently changed his formation to accommodate Spanish international playmaker Isco, who has enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Spanish capital.

The change of formation means that Bale may longer have a place in the starting line-up at the Bernabeu. The progress of fellow winger Marco Asensio could also put Bale’s Real Madrid future in doubt.

The feeling in Madrid seems to be that Real would not be against selling Bale, as they have players more than capable of taking the wingers place in the team.

At his best Bale would no doubt be a big asset for the Red Devils. However, he is coming up to 28 and his injury record would make signing him a major gamble.

United have tried to sign Bale previously, while he was at Southampton and Tottenham. The Welshman snubbed the Red Devils on both occasions, choosing different destinations instead.

Whether Bale would welcome a return to the Premier League is unknown. However, it has been reported that the Welsh international would be open to a summer move to Manchester.

This story may well rumble on for some time to come, but if Bale does move on it would no doubt be one of the biggest transfers of the summer.
