The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has named Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, PhD, as keynote speaker for its 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop scheduled for November 26 in Abuja.
The conference, which will hold at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters, Federal Capital Territory, will examine the role of online media in safeguarding information integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Themed “Securing Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: The Role of Online Media in Information Integrity, Public Trust and Democratic Resilience,” the conference is expected to bring together online media editors and publishers, journalists, academics, policymakers, political stakeholders and other professionals.
Owens-Ibie is a Professor of Communication, Media and Development and a two-term former Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos.
GOMEP-NG said his selection as keynote speaker reflected the growing need for informed dialogue on the responsibilities of media practitioners, particularly online publishers, in an increasingly digital electoral environment.
The guild said participants would examine emerging challenges confronting Nigeria’s electoral process, with particular attention to information integrity, public trust, responsible journalism and the role of digital media in strengthening democratic resilience.
It added that the conference would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to interrogate the influence of online platforms on public discourse and the need for professional and ethical journalism as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
According to the guild, the gathering is also expected to promote greater understanding of the responsibilities of online media practitioners in ensuring that citizens have access to credible and reliable information during the electoral cycle.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on September 27, 2026, by Tochukwu Eluwa, National Publicity Secretary, GOMEP-NG.
