The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, over alleged conspiracy, fraud and suspected self-kidnapping after her family reportedly paid N3 million ransom.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following intelligence gathered during investigation into a reported kidnapping incident.
According to the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, “Blessing was allegedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026. However, after her family reportedly paid N3 million ransom, she was not released, prompting the police to intensify investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The police said sustained intelligence gathering eventually led operatives to a room in Asaba, Delta State, where the alleged victim was found and recovered on the afternoon of September 18.
Preliminary investigation, according to the command, indicated that the woman may have conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and another male accomplice whose identity remains unknown, to allegedly stage her own abduction and obtain money from her family.
The command said the suspect was assisting investigators with useful information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and lead to the identification and arrest of her alleged accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be intensified to unravel the full circumstances of the case and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
