2027: APC No Threat, I’m Best Qualified for Ogbia Seat — Sokari

By Julius Agadaga, Yenagoa

The House of Representatives candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Ogbia Federal Constituency, Dr. Mercy Daniel Sokari, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) poses no threat to her ambition, expressing confidence in her chances of winning the 2027 general elections.

Sokari, who described herself as the best-qualified candidate for the Ogbia seat, attributed her confidence to what she called divine assurance of victory, insisting that her campaign was gaining support among youths, women and other stakeholders in the constituency.

She spoke in Yenagoa during the homecoming of the NDC National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, alongside the visit of the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, to the state.

The NDC candidate described the visit as significant for Bayelsa State, noting that Obi’s presence alongside Dickson provided an opportunity to strengthen the party’s political base in the state.

According to her, the party is intensifying grassroots mobilisation to secure victory for its candidates, from the presidential election to the National Assembly contests.

“We are winning the election, no doubt about that. There is no two ways about it. We are people God has ordained to go to the Green Chamber,” she said.

Sokari said her campaign had been engaging youths, women and community stakeholders, urging them to support the NDC in the forthcoming elections.

Dismissing concerns about the strength of the APC candidate, she said she was convinced that the House of Representatives seat belonged to the people of Ogbia and that her candidacy offered the constituency the best opportunity for effective representation.

On the influence of money politics, the NDC candidate acknowledged concerns about financial inducement during elections but maintained that her campaign was focused on winning the confidence of the electorate.

“We are bothered about money politics, but what concerns us is the people, the electorate. Let them be for us. By the special grace of God, over 90 per cent of the people are behind me and we are going to win the election,” she said.

She, however, did not provide details of any survey or assessment supporting her claim of having the backing of more than 90 per cent of voters.

Speaking on her plans for the constituency if elected, Sokari identified human capital development as the cornerstone of her legislative agenda.

She said her administration would prioritise the empowerment of women and youths, particularly through initiatives designed to improve livelihoods, expand opportunities and address poverty in Ogbia communities.

“Our main vision is human capital development. We are going to empower our people, especially women. They will once again smile, and the youths as well. We are going to make our people proud,” she stated.

Sokari urged eligible voters in Ogbia Federal Constituency to turn out in large numbers on election day and exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.

She called on the electorate to support her candidacy, expressing confidence that the NDC would secure victory in the 2027 elections.
