The Chairman of the Global Initiative Support Group for Sheriff Oborevwori 2027, Olorogun Josiah Ntekume, has expressed confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s re-election prospects, predicting that opposition parties may struggle to garner 10,000 votes in Delta State in the 2027 elections.
Ntekume, who disclosed that the group was established by friends of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, said the initiative was driven by their belief in Oborevwori’s leadership and determination to sustain the state’s development.
Speaking in an interview, he praised Ahon as a seasoned journalist, committed Christian and public servant whose professionalism had contributed significantly to projecting the achievements of the Oborevwori administration.
Ntekume described Ahon as a personal friend long before his appointment as the governor’s spokesperson, adding that his character, leadership qualities and commitment to duty had earned him respect within government circles.
“Festus Ahon is my personal friend, even before he became the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Delta State. He is a seasoned journalist and also a Knight of the Church. These are rare qualities to find combined in one individual,” he said.
He added that Ahon’s disposition and conduct reflected a deep sense of responsibility, noting that his relationship with senior government officials demonstrated the respect he commanded within the administration.
According to Ntekume, Ahon’s journalistic experience had also helped in communicating the governor’s policies, programmes and development projects to the public.
“When a government performs well, communicating its achievements becomes easier. In my view, Ahon has played an important role in informing the public about Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s programmes and projects,” he said.
On the formation of the Global Initiative Support Group for Sheriff Oborevwori 2027, Ntekume said the organisation brought together friends of Ahon who shared a common commitment to supporting the governor’s second-term ambition.
He explained that their support was motivated by what he described as “Agape love” for the governor, adding that members believed Oborevwori deserved another opportunity to consolidate his administration’s achievements.
“When we talk about Agape love, we are referring to the kind of unconditional love that God shows us because of what He has done for us. That is the kind of love we have for the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori,” he said.
“Our love for him is based on what he has done for us and the people of Delta State. As a group, we appreciate his leadership and the developmental efforts he has made.”
The group chairman stressed that its support would go beyond public declarations, saying he was personally committed to contributing to the group’s activities and mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
“My support is not merely about making statements or expressing political opinions. I am prepared to contribute to the group’s activities and initiatives because I believe in the need to sustain the progress being made in the state,” he stated.
Ntekume expressed optimism that the governor’s performance would translate into electoral support, arguing that political claims and public declarations did not necessarily reflect actual voting strength.
He maintained that the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for the electorate to assess the administration’s performance and determine whether its development agenda should continue.
Drawing from his experience as a former president-general of a community union in Northern California, United States, Ntekume said collective commitment and personal contributions were essential to achieving development goals.
He recalled how individuals supported the community union during his tenure through donations of equipment and other materials, noting that the experience reinforced his belief that those who believed in a cause should be prepared to contribute to its success.
“The same principle applies to our support for Governor Oborevwori. When people believe in the direction of an administration and want it to achieve more, they should be willing to contribute to its success,” he said.
Ntekume urged supporters of the governor to work together towards his re-election, expressing confidence that a second term would enable Oborevwori to consolidate existing projects and pursue additional development initiatives across Delta State.
