…Suspected abductors dump victim near checkpoint
The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a 16-year-old boy, identified as Favour Ayogu, allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and later abandoned near a security checkpoint in Onitsha.
Ayogu was rescued by a joint security patrol team at Ekene Junction, along Oguta Road, Onitsha, on the evening of September 13, 2026.
The teenager was reportedly dropped near the checkpoint by unidentified persons who fled in a black Toyota Highlander SUV.
According to the police, the swift intervention of the joint patrol team prevented possible further harm to the victim, who was immediately taken into protective custody.
The development has prompted the Anambra State Police Command to intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying and apprehending the persons allegedly behind the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command was working to establish the circumstances surrounding the boy’s movement from Enugu State to Onitsha and trace those responsible.
He appealed to residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, as well as members of the public who may have information about the boy or his family, to contact the nearest police station or the Anambra State Police Command, Awka.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the joint patrol team for its vigilance and professionalism.
Oji Ama directed personnel across the Command to sustain intelligence-led patrols, strategic checkpoints and coordinated security operations to prevent criminal activities and respond promptly to distress situations.
The Command assured residents and visitors that it would continue to strengthen security operations across the state and ensure that criminal elements are denied safe haven.
