The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release and safe return of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Rev. Sister who were abducted by armed men at Ifite-Awka, Awka, Anambra State.
The victims were released on Saturday, August 15, 2026, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu.
The command said it was taking steps to establish the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release and obtain useful information that could aid investigations and lead to the arrest of those behind the abduction.
The statement read in part, “The Anambra State Police Command confirms that, today, 15th August 2026, Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Rev. Sister, who were earlier abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka, have been released and have safely returned.”
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, directed intensified intelligence-led operations and a manhunt for the perpetrators.
The police said the ongoing operation involves personnel from the Police, Department of State Services, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Agunechemba security operatives and other relevant security agencies.
The command, while commending members of the public for their support and cooperation, urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information capable of assisting security agencies in apprehending the suspects.
The police assured that efforts would continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction and bring those responsible to justice.
