The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The recovery, according to the command, followed a patrol operation conducted by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on Thursday.
The police in a statement by the State Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident occurred in the afternoon of August 13, 2026, along the Isuaniocha Bridge, when operatives sighted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.
According to the command, “The riders became suspicious on sighting the police team and suddenly made a reckless turn in an apparent attempt to evade the operatives.
“The officers subsequently gave chase, during which the suspects reportedly fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it, along with two slippers and a bag, before fleeing into a nearby bush.
“A search of the abandoned bag led to the discovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription linked to the Vikings Confraternity.”
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the firearms and other items.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the development underscored the importance of sustained patrols and intelligence-led policing in preventing criminal activities across the state.
Oji Ama directed operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects, assuring residents that the command would continue to adopt proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.
