Prof. (Olorogun) (Rev.) Alexander O. Akpodiete, has called on Nigerians to use the 66th Independence anniversary to renew their faith in the country and recommit themselves to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Akpodiete, in an Independence Day message, said Nigeria’s journey since independence had been marked by “triumphs and trials”, but stressed that the resilience, ingenuity and determination of Nigerians remained the country’s greatest strength.
He said the contributions of Nigerian youths, men and women, communities and citizens at home and abroad offered the nation a strong foundation for a better future.
According to him, the Nigeria of tomorrow must be “more secure, more innovative, better educated, healthier and more prosperous”, with opportunities available to citizens regardless of their places of origin.
He urged Nigerians to look beyond the challenges confronting the country and focus on building a nation where young people could have confidence in their future.
Akpodiete said: “Our diversity should strengthen us. Our differences need not divide us. And our shared citizenship should remind us that the task of nation-building belongs to all of us.”
He called for greater commitment to national unity, noting that the responsibility for building a better Nigeria rested collectively on its citizens.
The NDC Delta Central senatorial aspirant also urged Nigerians to use the anniversary to reflect on the country’s past while looking forward to a more secure and prosperous future.
He prayed that the 66th Independence anniversary would “renew our faith in Nigeria and our commitment to leave a stronger nation for the generations coming after us.”
Akpodiete prayed for divine blessings on the country, saying: “Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
