Operatives of the Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps, Amassoma Cluster, have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The incident occurred in Akede Community in Sagbama LGA. Both the suspect and the victim are from the same community.
The incident was reported, by the victim’s elder cousin, Mr. Tobokeakpo Selekeme, leading to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Ebikeme Seiye, also from Akede community.
Sources from the Safety Corps said that upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he acted under the influence of hard drugs.
The Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps, Amassoma Cluster, has handed over the suspect to the Amassoma Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
As at the time of this report, the victim is receiving medical treatment in a clinic in the area.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, DSP Musa to comment on the incident before going to press were unsuccessful.
