The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Delta State Governor and pioneer Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Sir Festus Ahon, and the leadership of the chapel, Friday, paid a condolence visit to the family of late Comrade George Igbi at Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area.
Comrade George Igbi was the pioneer
Vice Chairman of Ughelli Correspondents Chapel.
Speaking at the family home of Igbi, Sir Ahon described late George Igbi as a dedicated member of the union who gave his best during the formative years of the chapel.
He said, “We are here as members of the Nigeria Union Journalists and I am also here as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Delta State.
“When I was Chairman of NUJ, your father was my vice and he was such a loyal person, and a very trusted friend who added so much value to the chapel when we were creating it.
“He was there during the formative period and was very supportive. He played a major role in the establishment of the Ughelli Correspondents Chapel.
“Even after our tenure, he was still very much in touch with me as a friend and as a boss and it got to a point I was relating with him as brothers, not even as colleagues anymore.
“His death is shocking and painful but there is nothing we can do at this point. We cannot question God.
“We urge you to take heart and ensure that you keep his legacies and ensure that you represent that thing which he believed in.
“Do your best to uphold the name of the family. Your father stood for integrity and we also urge you to stand for integrity.
“On behalf of my principal, the Governor of the State, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and on behalf of the union, I express our sincere condolences to you and your family. We pray God to guide and bless you in this period of grief.”
In his remarks, the eldest son of the deceased, Mr Morrison Igbi, thanked the Chief Press Secretary and the Ughelli Correspondents Chapel for the visit.
On the entourage with Sir Festus Ahon were Comrade Mathias Ogbagah, Chairman NUJ, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Sunday Apah, Comrade Gabriel Choba, Comrade Andrew Unutame, Comrade Efidhere Omamuzo and Comrade Choice Grandball.
