The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other victims in Awka, the state capital.

The police also recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be connected with the alleged criminal activities.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, saying the suspect was arrested on October 9, 2026, as part of ongoing intelligence-led operations to tackle motorcycle-assisted robberies and related crimes across the state.

Ikenga said the suspect was in police custody while investigations continued to establish the extent of his alleged involvement and identify other persons who might have participated in the crimes.

He explained that the arrest formed part of the command’s sustained efforts to track down suspected criminal elements and strengthen security across Anambra State.

According to the police spokesman, the recovered items would form part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged robbery incidents.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable was brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The command also urged members of the public, particularly POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.

The police assured residents that further developments would be communicated as investigations and weekend patrol operations continued.

The suspect’s alleged involvement in the offences has yet to be established in court.
