The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, on Friday led the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and other top government and security officials on an on-the-spot assessment of crisis-affected areas in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities.
The visit, which took place on October 2, 2026, was part of ongoing efforts by the state government and security agencies to stabilise the affected areas, protect lives and property, and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
The delegation inspected the affected locations to assess the security situation, the extent of property destruction and the impact of the crisis on residents.
The team also confirmed the fatal injury sustained by a victim during the incident and reviewed immediate security measures required to restore normalcy in the communities.
Speaking during the assessment, CP Nnanna Oji Ama reaffirmed the commitment of the police command to maintaining law and order and protecting residents and their property.
He urged residents of Aguleri and Umuoba Anam to remain calm and avoid actions capable of aggravating the situation, while calling on them to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
The police commissioner said the cooperation of residents would assist ongoing security operations and efforts to build lasting peace in the affected communities.
Also speaking, Deputy Governor Ibezim appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, town unions and other stakeholders to support government and security agencies in restoring peace.
He stressed that maintaining security was a collective responsibility requiring the cooperation of all stakeholders.
The police command assured residents that appropriate security measures had been deployed to stabilise the affected areas and prevent further breaches of peace.
It added that efforts were also ongoing to address the underlying issues through dialogue and other lawful channels.
