A traditional Chief and two others have been arraigned at a Magistrate Court holden at Ughelli, presided by Magistrate Onome Esade on a three count charges bordering on alleged stealing and conspiracy and purchasing stolen items in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspects Mr Samson Iborogu, Mr Dickson Ivie and Chief Mrs Rose Akamu were arraigned by the Delta State Commissioner of Police.
It would be recalled that over 450 bags of cement belonging to Ughelli North Local Government Area, were allegedly stolen by Mr Samson Iborogu and were bought by Chief Mrs Rose Akamu.
Sources disclosed that the over 450 bags of cement were bought at the rate of N5,000 by the traditional chief her inability to pay for the transportation led to the ‘cat been let of the bag’.
“The Keke rider was the one who reported to the council chairman of the activities going on at the place and that was what led to the recovery of some bags of cement and moulded blocks.
In a suit no:MU/157c/2025, they were arraigned on a three count charge read and they pleaded not guilty.
Speaking to new men, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Stewart Ogedegbe said, “We are at the preliminary stages now and what happened today was an arraignment of the three suspect in court.
“It is customary for them to be granted bail because it is bailable offence and they have all been granted and we have taken a date for hearing.
According to the Ogedegbe, “It is at the hearing stage that we will know whether they committed the offense or not
but what we have done today is arraignment and they have been granted bail.
“If they are able to perfect their bail then they will go home, and if they are unable to perfect their bail they will be going to the correctional center that is what happened today.
“The first two suspects were arraign for conspiracy and stealing while the third suspect was arraigned for receiving stolen properties.
“With the evidence that we have on our side, and with the strength of the law, am sure we are going to be victorious.” He assured.
The case was adjourned to July 31,2025, for hearing as the suspects were granted bail of One million, fifty thousand naira each, and a surety with landed property within the jurisdiction.
