LG embarks on fumigation to control malaria

Gumel Local Government Council of Jigawa has resolved to carry out fumigation to rid the area of mosquitos as part of malaria control.

The Information Officer of the council, Malam Sulaiman Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Saturday that the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Aminu Sani, gave the directive for the fumigation.

He explained that the fumigation would be conducted in residential areas, markets, schools and strategic locations, to rid communities of mosquito breeding spots.

He added that the exercise was to destroy the mosquito lava and to reduce the spread of malaria in the council.

According to him, the council boss urges residents to cooperate with the sprayers for smooth and successful conduct of the exercise.

Usman said the chairman also urged residents to ensure that they covered food, water and other edibles throughout the exercise.

He said the council’s Head of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (HOD WASH), Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, has bought quality chemicals and kits for the exercise.

The local government, he said, was poised to control malaria and enhance good healthcare delivery at the grassroots. (NAN)
