MEMBER representing Ughelli North Constituency I at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Omonade has been returned unopposed All Progressives Congress Primary held at the five wards of the constituency.
Omonade emerged unopposed in the exercise and polled a total of 6,403 votes to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Dr. Atiti Austine said, “As the final Returning Officer, sent from the state and I have gotten all the results from the wards of the constituency and they properly collated.
“As you are all aware, in this constituency, we have only one aspirant and because the party said, the primaries should be direct is the reason we are here or ordinarily we would have just affirm and return him unopposed.
“By the power conferred on me as the Ughelli North Constituency I, I here released the report as follows that Hon Matthew Omonade, haven scored the highest votes in all that wards in the constituency totalling 6,403 is hereby declared as the candidate and winner of the primaries election in Ughelli North Constituency I.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, Omonade expressed appreciation to party members, supporters and stakeholders across the constituency for what he described as overwhelming support and confidence in his leadership.
He particularly commended the people of Ughelli North Constituency I for their massive turnout and steadfast backing during the primary process.
He said, “I want to thank party faithful, brothers, sisters, mothers, leaders and fathers,” for standing by me throughout the contest.
“This primary reflect the unity and strength of the APC in Ughelli North Constituency 1, adding that the support he received was both encouraging and humbling.”
The lawmaker dedicated his victory to the memory of a late associate, Mr. Godwin, whose death he said came after a difficult experience.
“I dedicate this victory to my late friend, Mr. Godwin. May his soul rest in peace.”
He further commended Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as his role in ensuring a peaceful, smooth and credible primary election.
He assured constituents that if elected into the Delta State House of Assembly, he would provide effective representation and continue to champion policies and programmes that would bring development to the constituency.
Omonade also pledged to remain a strong voice for the people of Ughelli North Constituency 1, promising more democratic dividends and grassroots-oriented representation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, expressing optimism that the party would record victory in the forthcoming elections.
