The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its renewed intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes, with operatives neutralising two suspected kidnappers/armed robbers along Eziowelle Road.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, when operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, mobilised to the area following reports of the presence of suspected armed criminals.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives came under fire from the suspects upon sighting the police team, leading to a gun duel.
Ikenga said two of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the encounter, while other members of the gang escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
He disclosed that the operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun and five live cartridges from the scene.
The police spokesperson said the development underscored the command’s renewed determination to dismantle criminal networks and prevent kidnappers and armed robbers from gaining a foothold in the state.
He said the command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, would sustain proactive and intelligence-driven operations across Anambra.
“Further investigations have commenced, while intensified efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the gang,” Ikenga said.
He assured residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence, operational resources and coordinated policing strategies to safeguard lives and property across the state.
The command said further developments on the operation would be communicated to the public as investigations progress.
