The Anambra State Police Command has intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the state following the successful police-led joint security operation that neutralised four suspected armed gang members and recovered a cache of sophisticated weapons in Orumba South Local Government Area.
The Command disclosed on Wednesday that it had identified and debriefed the owner of the white Toyota Sienna recovered during the operation along the Ogboji–Ajalli Road. The vehicle, police said, had earlier been stolen by the suspected armed gang before it was recovered during the encounter.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, information obtained from the victim has provided valuable intelligence on the gang’s mode of operation and the circumstances surrounding the theft. He said the information is assisting the Command in reviewing operational strategies, personnel deployment and security positioning across the affected communities.
The Command also commended the courage, resilience and professionalism displayed by the Police-led Joint Security Patrol Team under the coordination of the Commander, Forward Operating Base (FOB), Aguata, CSP Austin Eligwe, describing the operation as a product of effective intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration.
The police stressed that no single security agency could claim sole responsibility for the relative peace currently being enjoyed in Anambra State, noting that the successes recorded have been made possible through sustained collaboration among security agencies, intelligence sharing and the continued support of residents.
The Command reassured the public that intelligence-led operations remain ongoing to track down fleeing members of the criminal gang and their collaborators. It urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to sustain the fight against crime and ensure lasting peace across the state.
