Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has led an observation patrol across parts of the state and conducted unscheduled visits to some police stations in Awka ahead of Saturday’s local government elections.
The exercise, which took place yesterday, was aimed at assessing the operational readiness of personnel, strengthening supervision and ensuring effective policing ahead of the August 29 council elections.
During the patrol and visits, the commissioner inspected the operational environment of the stations and interacted with officers and men on duty to assess their level of preparedness, alertness and responsiveness to security concerns within their areas of responsibility.
He also reviewed the conduct of personnel, reiterating the need for professionalism, discipline, courtesy and respect for the rights of citizens before, during and after the elections.
CP Nnanna charged officers to remain vigilant, politically neutral and responsive, stressing that the police must discharge their constitutional responsibilities in a manner that promotes public confidence and peaceful elections.
He said effective policing was anchored on public trust, accountability and professionalism, directing personnel to maintain high standards of discipline in their dealings with members of the public, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders.
The commissioner warned that the command would not tolerate indiscipline, misconduct, extortion, corruption, political bias or any other form of unprofessional conduct.
According to him, officers whose actions promote quality policing, community partnership and public confidence would continue to be encouraged and rewarded.
CP Nnanna assured residents of the command’s preparedness to provide adequate security for the local government elections, saying operational supervision, visibility and strategic deployment would be strengthened across the state.
He added that the measures were designed to safeguard lives and property, protect critical infrastructure and create a secure environment for citizens to exercise their civic responsibilities.
The commissioner also urged residents, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to cooperate with the police and other security agencies, obey the law and avoid actions capable of undermining peace before, during and after the elections.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, made this known in a statement issued yesterday, August 26, 2026.
The statement said the police leadership remained committed to ensuring that the forthcoming elections were conducted in a peaceful, secure and orderly environment.
